How Does Landscape Design Differ From Landscape Architecture?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Landscape design is basically the design of an outdoor area. It differs from landscape architecture in the way that it is more concerned with the look of an area rather than the structural elements. It is more or less the same as interior design, but outdoors instead. Landscape design involves designing an outdoor area, such as a backyard garden. This involves carrying out tasks such as planting flower beds with different colour schemes, having good knowledge of plant forms and textures and creating focal points around a garden to bring out particular areas.

Landscape design may be carried out for the public to enjoy, such as public gardens and parks etc or it may just be carried out by people in their own backyard, simply for their own enjoyment. Others may design their own gardens in order to make an impression on people walking past their homes.
