In addition to beefing up security, it may prove useful to join a car club or owners' club. Most high performance vehicles have dedicated clubs and invariably a major incentive to join is the special discounted insurance rates they have negotiated. Other insurance companies also recognise and give discounts for car club and owners' club members as there's evidence to suggest they're more careful drivers.

Another strategy is to prove to your insurer that you are a good driver by taking ~ and passing ~ a performance vehicle driving course. Many manufacturers run special courses as an optional extra for customers buying new vehicles. These are usually held on race tracks or private land and can often prove to be money well spent, especially for the novice driver buying their first high performance vehicle. Some insurers will take these courses into account if you can provide evidence.

Passing the Institute of Advanced Motorists test is another way to get into the good books with car insurers. There are over 200 IAM groups across the UK who help drivers gain this certificate which is widely discounted for by car insurance companies.
