How Do You Know How Old A Martin Guitar Is?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Luckily it's very easy to determine the age or year of manufacture of your Martin Guitar. The manufacturers had the sense to use serial numbers based on the year of manufacture. Once you know the serial number of your guitar you can ascertain the year in which it was made.

In flat top Martins which feature a round sound hole, the Serial number can be found at the base of the neck block along with the model number. You can search for the serial number at the centre seam strip within the f-holes if the guitar is an arch top.

You can refer to the following link www.provide.net/~cfh/martin.html where a table of reference, listing serial numbers and manufactured dates, is provided. These guitars are greatly prized by enthusiasts and collectors especially those models that pre date the Second World War.
