How Can I Stop My Pet Fish From Dying?

I have a siamese fighting fish named Nemo, he's been alive for about a year. Just this morning I found that on patches of his body his scales are literally coming off! I could see his pink flesh underneath. Now it's spread more throughout his body, the tips of his tail and fins are turning white and coming off as well. I don't know what to do, I've searched the web to find out what this is exactly and how to cure it but I couldn't find anything useful! Please someone help!

Check out my entry under "Fish Lies On Side Like He Is Dead But Starts Moving When I Tap On The Pond Liner, Why?" and follow the "dip" instructions.

I would buy Melafix or Primafix, it is a natural tea tree extract, you add it to your water just like the directions. Follow the directions it should take care of what ever he has. It sounds like a fungus, (cotton mouth and fin and tail rot) I would do it as soon as possible.
