The village of Lapford is a conventional and picturesque Devonshire village located some 18 miles to the north of Exeter off the A377 road. The village now boasts of 1,000 villagers, a primary school, post office, market places and local churches. There had been influx of settlers from outside places and towns such as Crediton, Exeter and Tiverton.
Lapford was first mentioned on the Domes day book of 1086 compiled by the Normans. A church was constructed out of stone in the 12th century and is still dominating the village skyline. Lapford prospered throughout the middle-ages as a huge number of artisans, craftsmen and businessmen built shops and raised the economic condition of the town. Administratively the village is under the patronage of Mid Devon District Council, which has its base in Tiverton and Devon County Council, in Exeter. The Lapford Parish Council acts as a linkage between the villagers.
