What Is A Passion Fruit?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A passion fruit is a fruit that is mostly grown in north-western South America, the Caribbean, Brazil, south Florida, Hawaii, Australia, East Africa, and South Africa. It is generally round to oval, yellow or dark purple at ripeness, with a squashy interior filled with various seeds. The fruit is matured for its juice, which is frequently added to new fruit juices to improve aroma.

There are two types of passion fruits and differ, due to their appearances. One is the bright yellow passion fruit that generally grows up to the size of a grapefruit. It is usually smooth, glossy, light and airy skin. It is used as a rootstock for the purple granadilla in Australia. The second type is the dark purple passion fruit, which is smaller than a lemon, with a dry, wrinkled peel at maturity.
