The expressions of happiness at the arrival of Begum Waheed are symbolic of the tradition in so many houses. The coming of a child to see or meet his/her parents though once in a year was a kind of event in those days when the distances meant some thing for human beings.

"Seeing Mr. Nihal some back he got up & asked him if he had forgotten. Some thing. But Nihal smiled & said that his eldest daughter was coming home. Then he went inside the house and gave the letter to Begum Nihal; and happy & smiling he went to his work walking lightly with quick steps.

Begum Nihal was also happy. It was an event if one of the children came home. Their two eldest sons were in government service and lived for away from them. But being nearer home then Begum Waheed they often came to Dehli, at least two or three times in the year or their families came. Their daughter lived in Bhopal, far away, and she could not come so often. In fact, she came only once in a year or so. That is way both of them were happy to get the news of the arrival of their daughter.

Mehru was bursting wit happiness, and Asghar, of course could not expect any thing better. We waited for his sister arrival with impatience, counting the days,: and as each day passed the heaved a sigh of relay one day………."
