Gallatin is the name of a city in Tennessee, United States. It is situated in the Sumner County and is its county seat. This city gets its name from Albert Gallatin who was an ethnologist, linguist, politician, diplomat and the longest serving United States Secretary of the Treasury. The former headquarters of Dot Records was based in Gallatin. The largest two year college of Tennessee is also located at Gallatin. The college is named as Volunteer State Community College.
A tornado struck this town in the year 2006 and it resulted in the death of nine people and injured 150. As per the 200 census this city had a population of 23,230 residents. This city was formed in 1801 by the Tennessee General Assembly. It is ruled and presided by a seven member council presided by the mayor. It has the distinction of being one of the oldest established municipal governments.
