What Exactly Does Reflexology Involve?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Reflexology is a type of medicine but it is not part of the scientific branch of medicine. It is classified as an alternative therapy, or a complementary therapy, which means it can be used instead of scientific medicine, or alongside it.

Usually people recommend reflexology as an additional therapy to help particularly with conditions that have a stress related or emotional component as it may aid relaxation and focus the mind of the patient on themselves. Better self care is often very beneficial when dealing with any sort of illness.

In reflexology, the therapist stimulates points on the feet, hands and ears to bring about changes in parts of the body that he or she believes to be related to those points. To do this, the reflexologist has foot reflexology charts, hand charts and ear charts for reference. The therapy session involves massaging the points on the feet that are thought to correspond to the part of the body that is affected by the illness, so that energy, or Qi, can flow freely and restore health.
