    A Contractor Told Me That I Had 6 Layers Of On My Flat Roof And All Layers Should Be Removed. This House Is About 55 Years Old. I Had The Roof Repair Once Since I Have Been Living Here. So People Who Live Here Before Me Must Have Had Roof Fix.His Cost Was $6,000.00. What Should I Do?

    I would suggest you get another estimate. The six layers on a house only 55 years old sounds suspicious. Depending on the size of the roof and the job though it could be on target, but the whole thing sounds fishy. Also ask the next estimate (without leading questions) how many layers are up there. Remember though that the roof is one of the very very important parts of home maintenance. Costly repairs can compound due to a neglected roof. When counting, count all the layers of each shingle, for example a shingle with two layers in one shingle is not two layers of shingle, but one.

      Paintright is right, there should be no more than 2 maybe 3 layers on the roof. Sounds like either someone didn't know what they were talking about,(contractor) or he was hoping you didn't know either and is trying to fleece you out of 6 grand.
