What Are Some Must-read Non-fiction Books?

I have vacation coming and would like to spend reading highly-recommended, personal growth books. Only the best, though. What do you recommend? Subjects I enjoy are practical skills (leadership, communication, organization), astral projection, cooking, optimizing education (speed reading, Critical thinking, etc.), and meditation (stress, quiescence). I am currently reading a book on how to read music, but I am willing to read a second one if you think you can beat mine (Learn to Read Music by Howard Shanet). I don't have a lot of time, so please make practical and superb suggestions.

Some might argue the "non-fiction" status of this book, but I urge you to read "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne. It is based on the law of attraction. I really want to say more about it but I know for a fact it has more impact the less you know about it. If you allow it to, it could change your life like it did mine...

Wow! From the reviews I read, it sounds like this is a combination of many of my interests. I will look for it. Thanks.

Well anytime you increase your knowledge it is probably going to make you a better person... So hopefully you will find these suggestions worthwhile.

    1) "Change or Die"-Alan Deutschman: Fascinating hypothesis regarding what is needed to actually effect personal change. Uses some breakthrough research and progressive ideas to support. Thought you might find it especially interesting as relates to the dramatic change you made re: Your eating habits/changes. Fascinating examples and cases.

    2) The Power Principle: Influence With Honor - Dr. Blaine Lee. A classic full of wisdom (my opinion). He writes for a servant-leadership orientation, and emphasizes honourable relationships. I found his perspective on power an inspiring one that encourages the leader in all of us, no matter what our roles in life.

    3) "Soul Prints: Your path to fulfilment"-Marc Gafni. As you might imagine, inspirational value. Profound thinker, brilliant, passionate and writes to every human heart in a way that we easily hear --uses spiritual stories to teach how to lead happier and more fulfilling lives. Author is American-born, but is the dean of the Melitz public culture study center (Israel). He travels and lectures extensively. One of the most inspirational books I have had the prvilege to read and recommend.

Good luck with these--and all good wishes for a fantastic vacation! :)

"Silent Spring" by Rachel Carson is a must for this day and age, and there are many outstanding biographies depending on your particular interests. A librarian could be a big help or you might look through www.randomhouse.comm

Definately read Blink by Malcom Gladwell, and Tipping point if you havent already. Both are pretty awesome & useful. Also The Diving Bell and the Butterfly by Jean-Dominique Bauby - A sad but amazing account written by using just his left eye - he had locked in syndrome but had use of just his left eye, which he managed to use to convey letter by letter, his feelings & predicaments.
