Carlos got his big break in 1996 when he starred in 'The Killing Jar' alongside Xander Berkeley who he would later work alongside again in '24'.
He also appeared in television soap 'Sunset Beach' and TV movie 'Babylon 5: A Call to Arms'.
In 2001, he found fame playing Counter Terrorist Unit agent Tony Almeida in '24' where he starred opposite Kiefer Sutherland. He would continue this role for five seasons. Bernard and his on-screen wife, Reiko Aylesworth, who played the part of Michelle Dessler were born in the same hospital, but ten years apart.
