    Born in St Austell, Cornwall in nineteen sixty six, Anthony Nigel Martyn began his football career with West country side Bristol Rovers, whom he signed for in nineteen eighty seven.  

    After making one hundred and one league appearances for Rovers, Martyn was sold to London club Crystal Palace for a fee of one million pounds in nineteen eighty nine.  

    Martyn spent seven years at Selhurst Park, featuring in two hundred and seventy two league games for the club, before moving to Elland Road, the home of Leeds United in the summer of nineteen ninety six.  

    Under managers, George Graham and latterly David O'Leary, Martyn played two hundred and seven league games for the Yorkshire club before leaving the club to sign for his final team, Everton.  

    Martyn spent three years keeping goal at Goodison Park, playing ninety eight league games for the Toffee men, before injury forced his retirement from the game in two thousand and six.
