    The word grain can mean different things in different contexts. Grain is a unit of mass and it is equal to 64.79891 milligrams. It is denoted by the symbol gr. Originally a grain was the measurement of a barley grain seed. Nowadays this measurement is more commonly used for drugs and medicines. It is commonly used in countries like United States and Canada.

    Grain can also mean to indicate the cereal seeds which are cultivated for consumption of humans as well as domesticated animals. They are grown in more quantities than any other crops in the world and are very rich sources of energy. It is included in the staple diet of people living in the developing countries. Grains are therefore also known as cereals or corn in countries like UK, and Ireland.
