Detroit, the city christened the Automobile capital of the world is the largest city in the state of Michigan in the United States. The state of Michigan is surrounded by the great lakes. The capital of Michigan however is not Detroit but Lansing.
Detroit is also a major port city located to the North of the city of Windsor in Ontario, Canada.
Detroit has a population of nearly five and a half million eight hundred thousand of whom live in Detroit city. Detroit during the second half of the eighties became notorious for its high crime rate. The film "Beverly Hills Cop" had Eddie Murphy playing a Detroit city detective.
Recently Detroit has seen a revival of sorts and there are several places of interest one can visit like the Museum of African American History, Detroit Science Center, Fisher Theater/Masonic Temple, Pontiac Silver dome and the Motor Sports Hall of Fame.
