What Is The Education System In Japan?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In Japanese society routine is very important and the same thing happens in education system which can be described as 6-3 3-4 system: 6 years for primary schools, 3 years for junior high school, 3 years for high school and 4 years for university. The first 9 years are compulsory and, most Japanese choose to go to university while a small percentage chooses to go to technical college or junior college.

Japanese university can be divided into state-run school and private school. The tuition fee of state-run school is much cheaper than private school. There are strict examination systems for getting into a university, i.e. whether a person can get into a university largely depends on the result of the examination though on occasions recommendation may also be important.

Overall, Japanese education put more emphasis on theory rather than practice. For example, many Japanese university students have high score in English test but few can speak English in daily life.
