    The first prime minister of Britain was Margaret Thatcher. She became the prime minister in 1979 and stayed in the office till 1990. In 1953, she had been elected to the House of Commons. In 1975, she was elected as the leader of her Party before becoming the prime minister. She was a graduate of Somerville College, Oxford and worked as a chemist and a tax law barrister.

    When she became the president, she earned the reputation of a very strong woman who could stand in the face of any adversary. She is known for her economic renovation of Britain. If you are interesting in knowing more about her reforms and policies, follow the link in parentheses (Thatcher)

    She was succeeded by John Major in 1990.
