In What Year Did Portsmouth Football Club First Win A Major Honour?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Portsmouth football club first won a major footballing honour in nineteen thirty nine when the South coast side won the FA cup.

For a brief period, Pompey were the dominant force in England, capturing the league championship in successive seasons in the nineteen forty eight, forty nine and again in nineteen forty nine, fifty seasons.  Those two seasons have proved to be the only two successes in the league for Portsmouth, with the club spending a large part of the late twentieth century out of England's top flight.

The arrival of ex West Ham United manager Harry Redknapp bought an end to that, and under his stewardship the club gained promotion to the Premier league in the two thousand and two, three season.

After a management merry go round in which Redknapp defected to South coast arch rivals Southampton, Redknapp returned midway through the two thousand and five six season to save the club from relegation.
