Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Strategic Commissioning is when an authority assigns the responsibility of accomplishing a particular task to an individual or a body. Commissioning means to ordering someone to do something or assigning a task to a person or a group of people.  The authority required to complete the task is given to the person or body that is assigned the task in question. Strategic comes from the word strategy which means a well thought of method or plan. The plan aims at accomplishing a goal of some sort.

There is a Strategic Commissioning London Agency under the Audit Commission which basically aims at improving public services.  It first assesses a public service, then establishes certain goals for improvement and then tries to achieve them as far as possible. The Arts Council of England also has a Museum and Gallery Strategic Commissioning Program. It is a national development program. Its funding comes from the Department of Education and the DCMS.
