When Did The Rise Of Hip Hop Clothing Occur?

Although the hip hop culture and fashion was introduced in the 1980s but it was in the 1990s that there came a rise in the hip hop fashion. Artists like Sean Diddy introduced the shiny suit style by wearing flashy suits and jewelry.

In all his videos he displayed the "bling" culture by wearing platinum and gold chains and bracelets too. His videos were used as a big marketing strategy to make the consumers buy these products. In fact Sean started his own line of hip hop clothing and accessories with other manufacturers and it became a million dollar hip hop fashion industry.

Many African American hairstyles were also introduced such as Caesar cut, cornrows and Afros which are maintained by wearing a do-rag over the head while a person is sleeping or doing any other home activity in order to prevent the hair for getting messy. This became a very popular fashion item in the 1990s.

In the 1990s the hip hop style was divided amongst the females and males and separate lines were produced for both because previously there was no gender difference in the clothing line. Many female artists introduced glamorous style hip hop clothes which became very popular.
