How Does A Plant Get The Raw Materials It Need For Photosynthesis?

Answer Question

Zain, there are three things that a plant needs to carry out photosynthesis: Light, water and carbon dioxide. Let's see where it gets each of these:
    1. Light: The chlorophyll pigment in the plant (that makes them green) traps sunlight that falls onto the photosynthesizing parts of the leaf and uses it to obtain energy that runs photosynthesis.
    2. Carbon dioxide: Plants take up carbon dioxide from around their roots or may also absorb it through their stomata (the tiny openings in the leaf surface).
    3. Water: Water is taken up by the plants through their root systems. This then travels via the phloem to the part where it is required for photosynthesis.
