Pharsalus is a place in Greece where the famous Battle of Pharsalus was fought in the ancient times. This place is known as Farsala in Greek. It is a city in the modern times and is located in Thessaly periphery based in central Greece. It is one of the biggest or largest cities in its prefecture and is municipality as well as a province.

It is a significant economic and agricultural centre in its province. It had a population of 13,500 residents as per 2006 census. This place is believed to have been the capital city of Myrmidons which was ruled by the father of the Greek hero Achilles. Thus it is a place where civilisation has existed even before the siege of Troy. In 48 BC, the Battle of Pharsalus was fought here and Julius Caesar defeated Pompey in this war.
