MSN Hotmail basically is a free of charge web-based e-mail service, which is available through a web browser.Hotmail will be shifted to the Windows Live brand once the beta version is completely upgraded.

Hotmail was created in the year 1995, by Jack Smith and Sabeer Bhatia, and was launched in the year 1996. Jack Smith came up with the concept of accessing e-mails through the internet from any part of the world. When Sabeer Bhatia came up with the business plan for the concept, he tried all sorts of names ending with "mail" and eventually concluded on Hotmail since it had the alphabets "HTML", which was the language applied to write web pages.

By the year 1997, Hotmail had approximately 8.5 million subscribers and was eventually sold to Microsoft for nearly US $400 million in late 1997.
