In Maths What Is Hausdorff Dimension?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Hausdorff dimension is, in mathematics, an extended non-negative real number. It can be associated to any metric space. German mathematician, Felix Hausdorff, regarded as one of the founders of modern topology, introduced the concept in 1918. This was one of his biggest contributions.

The Hausdorff dimension provides us with an accurate means of measurement for the dimension of an arbitrary metric space. This includes fractals and similarly complicated sets.

Abram Samoilovitch Besicovitch, a Russian mathematician, was responsible for the technical developments that are used in the computation of the Hausdorff dimension, which is why the Hausdorff dimension is also frequently referred to as the Hausdorff-Besicovitch dimension.
Although it is not most commonly referred to as the following, it is also known as the capacity dimension or fractal dimension.
