    Tax Exempt Company Has Not Responded To My Request For Bylaws And Tax Returns, What Is My Next Step?

    Youth group in our town has a tax exempt status but I don't see any evidence of this because they have not given me any returns or returns that I understood was required by a tax exempt status

    I do not believe that they must supply the tax returns as this is confidential information and unless publicly/government funded organization would not be public documents normally. They must supply the tax ID number if you were a contributor to the institution, this is for your records to verify the deductible contributions that were given to them and deductible by the contributors on their personal tax return as a charitable contribution. If you are in a law suit then these records can be subpoenaed but you will have to check with legal counsel in you area as to what they are required to provide.

      The Not-For Profit organization is required to provide the following documents upon request.

      1-  Tax ID Number (Physical copy)
      2-  Annual Report (also available for the Attorney General or the
           DOS  in your state.  (Physical Copy)
      3-  A copy of they 990 Tax return form (IRS) (Physical Copy)
      4-  Their IRS status determination letter (View only)

      IRS rule:
      The public has right to same-day access upon request at office; organizations
      may satisfy obligation by placing information on the Internet.
