The word dextral means relating to or of the right hand side. It also means right handed. It is also a term used in zoology to refer to the shape of gastropod shells when they show a clockwise shape.

Dextral persons are those that have a preference to use their right hands. They perform tasks such as eating, writing and intricate work with their right hands. They also show a preference in using their right foot and eye more than the corresponding pair. Most people are right handed or dextral as opposed to Sinistral or left handed and ambidextrous (those that can use both hands to perform tasks). It is medically supposed that the left half of the brain controls the right hand side of the body. Thus in dextral individuals the left side is more developed or more in use.
