Cardiff University is a well-known university situated in Cathays Park region of Cardiff, Wales. It was given the status of Royal charter in the year 1883. Cardiff University is also a part of the Russell group of Universities. The university was in contention for the Sunday Times University of the Year award in the year 2003.
Prior to August 2004, the university was formerly known as University of Wales. The total number of immigrant students made up 17 per cent of the total population. Where as 83-85 per cent of the students were from state schools.
The Aberdare Report which was released in the year 1881 suggested a University be built in the north and south of Wales. Hence a public appeal was made which resulted in 37,000 pounds being raised. The University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire was launched on October 24, 1883, it was inducted in the Royal Charter the subsequent year.
