Usually this is called burial. It is called being buried in the UK.
The rituals around burial are very ancient and probably go back to the upper paleolithic. Burials from thousands of years ago show that humans and proto human beings were burying their dead with associated ritual and this in turn leads us to believe that there has been a belief in the after-life for thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years.
Many culture bury their dead with what are called grave goods. These are objects which may have had some meaning for the person when they were alive.
Archaeologists can often reconstruct the life of the dead person by what they find in a burial. It's often burials which help us reconstruct life.
