    The Sahara of Northern Africa is the world's largest desert with an area of approximately 3.5 million square miles (9.1 million square kilometers).  The Gobi of Mongolia/NE China (Asia) is the world's second largest desert with a relatively small area of 0.5 million square miles (1.3 million square kilometers).

        The largest desert is the Sahara Desert of northern Africa. The Sahara has a surface area of 9 million square kilometers (3.5 million square miles), and it stands as the largest non-polar desert in the world. . Also asia and Africa are continents not countries.

          Asia and Africa are not countries they are 1st and 2nd largest continents in the world. Sahara is located in the northern part of African continent.
