Why do you want to install 98 when you got one of the best operating systems i.e. Windows XP..It is better than the latest Vista buddy!

You're just going to love Microsoft for this one and I mean that in the most sarcastic way! No, you do not need to install a second hard drive but, in order for it to work properly, Windows wants you to install the older operating system first. To get a dual boot you then install XP as an upgrade. With a dual boot, you will be asked to go into either Windows 98 (the default) or Windows XP at bootup. You will usually have 20-30 seconds to make up your mind.
What does this mean? It means that you have to completely reformat your hard drive in order to get the XP operating system off the C:/ drive. You then install Windows 98, your antivirus suite (like Norton or McAfee taking a hit as a second install if you only have the new 3 install program), all of your office suite programs, all of the hardware drivers for such items as printers and camera and any photo suite programs like Photoshop + whatever miscellaneous programs you had installed, You then go on the internet to get all of the updates for both the operating system, office suites and all the other programs you installed. Now you are ready to reboot (for about the millionth time) and install XP as an upgrade. You then follow the same steps as outlined above to put in programs for XP.
If you just put in a second hard drive with Windows 98 in it, Microsoft won't recognize the operating system and try to use the drive as a slave off the XP drive. In other words all Windows sees is the XP operating system and a huge flash drive attachment. You could get reboot errors. POST will complete and boot over to Windows. Windows may see 2 operating systems and try to boot up in Safe Mode. It will then count down the 30 seconds reboot to POST and start the cycle over again.
Your short answer? No you don't need a second hard drive. Will you be able to install 98 on top of XP? No.

I don't believe so, but XP should be able to do anything win98 can, seems redundant.
If you were going to do something like that I would look more into win98 on a live cd or usb.
Now days if you have a machine running XP it should have enough memory and cpu power to run win98 straight out of memory.
