Who Founded The National Ballet Of Canada?

The National Ballet of Canada one of the premier ballet troupes of Canada along with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet was founded in 1951 by the well known ballet mistress Celia France. France was invited to Canada to spread the art of ballet dancing by balletomanes from Canada in 1950; the National Ballet of Canada is based in Toronto, Ontario and owes its existence to the spirit of Celia France who during the ballet troupe's early days worked at a job in a supermarket while finding time to train dancers.

She also went on to start the National Ballet School of Canada in 1959 which recruited several budding ballerinas and transformed them in to some of the finest dancers who performed for the Company; France also served as the artistic director of the National Ballet of Canada for a period of 24 years and oversaw much of its progress and development. In recognition of her contribution to the performing arts in Canada she was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1967 and later in 1985 was promoted to Companion, the highest grade of honor.
