Why Is Light So Important To Earth?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Light is a form of energy, the sun being the chief source of the light we get. Without the Sun the Earth will be a cold dark place which is inert and dead and incapable of supporting life. All ecological, geological and other natural processes on Earth would cease to exist. The share of light that the Earth gets from the sun is sufficient for it to run its processes and support biological life. For instance, plants convert minerals and nutrients they extract from Earth into sources of energy like Carbohydrates with the help of sunlight through a process called Photosynthesis. The herbivores and omnivores depend on plants for sustenance which in turn provide food source for the carnivores. So, if there is no light there would be no plants and with no plants there would be no food source for animals and they eventually would die out.
