How Long After Ring Worm Lesions Are Gone Or Significantly Shrunk..is My Puppy Not Contagious?

Answer Question

Ringworm is a highly contagious fungal skin infection.  Dogs which have received aggressive treatment for ringworm will remain contagious for about 3 weeks.  Ringworm is most commonly passed from animal to animal or human but it can also be contracted from soil and contaminated objects.  Fungal spores can be quite resistant and may remain contagious in the environment on things like grooming equipment, carpets and bedding for a long time - up to 13 months.  Use a dilution of bleach:water 1:10 to clean contaminated material like your dog's kennel and brushes.  This will kill most spores.  Carpets should be vacuumed, and the vacuum bags should be discarded.  Steam cleaning of carpets and upholstery is even more effective.
