Both the companies can be compared as they both make processors for computers so in that respect they can be called competitors. But they are not only competitors but have had some strategic alliances also at some point of time in their life cycle.

In the year 1982 they signed an agreement that made AMD become the second-source manufacturer of the processors called 8086 and 8088. But in the year 1986 they started litigation and the blame came on Intel which was accused of breach of contract. When AMD filed the litigation the case was decided in its favour but Intel again filed a case to repel that judgment. In the year 1990, there was another case that appeared and in this case Intel sued AMD for copyright infringement.

With the above mentioned cases we can conclude that both the companies are constantly in dispute and their rivalry is good for consumers.
