An apple is a *nix based user-friendly personal computer (PC). It used to have it's own system, but has switched to a more mainstream architecture. It is a great computer for beginners, but are more costly. It's closest relative (based on architecture) is BSD UNIX. I may have gone too far. Suffice to say: It's a computer.
