Why Is Eyesight Important When Learning To Drive?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

A key element of safe and legal driving is achieved by using mainly your eyesight. Your vision is used to spot potential dangers, read signs and observe the space around you.

As a legal standard, you should be able to read a number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres as a measurement of your visual ability. If you are unable to meet this standard any insurance on your car will be invalid, and you will be breaking the law.

Before you begin learning to drive, you may want to confirm the quality of your eyesight with a qualified optician. If there is any doubt in your mind about your eyesight, please safeguard both yourself and other road users by having it checked properly. Even if you are only slightly visually impaired you may still need to wear glasses or contact lenses. It is against the law and very dangerous to try to drive without meeting the legal standard.

...Um ...How about... If you cannot see... You cannot drive? You endanger yourself as well as the public when you are without proper eye wear such as glasses or contacts.
