Fredericksburg is the name of a self-governing city in the United States Commonwealth of Virginia, situated around fifty miles to the south of Washington DC, and fifty five miles to the north of the city of Richmond in Virginia. According to the population census conducted in the year 2000, the city housed a total of 19,279 residents. Fredericksburg is combined with the adjacent county of Spotsylvania by the BEA, that is, the Bureau of Economic Analysis, for statistical reasons. It is a component of the Washington Metropolitan Area and is regarded by many as a part of northern Virginia, and by some as a suburb of Washington DC.
