Lovage is an herb, scientifically known as Levisticum officinale, and its leaves are generally used as spice. Lovage has a medicinal usage as well, because its roots are used as diuretic drug and available in pharmacy. It has a strong aromatic flavour. It came from central Asia and a common ingredient in Southern and Central European cuisine. It is specifically used in the preparation of pickle and tomato sauce.  In Germany, it is very popular flavouring in potato dishes as well as its taste reminiscent with magi soup seasoning. This is why it is also known as Maggikraut in Germany.
