When Searching For A Job Teaching At Two-year Colleges, Is It Wise To Drop Off My Curriculum Vitae With Reference Contacts At Institutions That Don't Have Job-openings At The Current Time?

I am a community college math teacher with 25 years experience. I'm looking for summer teaching work at some geographically desirable colleges (not my own), but they aren't advertising openings right now. If their part-time faculty turnover is like ours, they're always looking for qualified people. Is it wise to drop off my CV at these colleges before they advertise a position? Should my CV be accompanied by general letters of recommendation, or is the reference contact info in the CV sufficient with the expectation that letters would be forthcoming when an actual job comes open?

Yes it is pretty much wise. In my opinion, there is no harm to drop your CV before the position is advertised. Just call them when you see that they have an open position. The reference contact information in the CV is sufficient. Just mention in your CV that letter of recommendations will be provided on request.
