Should I Get A Steroid Shot?

My primary care physical says I have rotator cuff tendonitis and frozen shoulder. She recommends that I get a steroid shot. I have done some research on the subject and doing it once is ok, but more than once is not. Plus, I am a diabetic. I have lost almost all the feeling and strength in my arm... Should I go through with it even though I have a VERY low pain threshold? And will it be worth it? Some folks in my church say it definitely is worth it..

A patient can have up to four steroid injections in one area by a qualified primary care Dr. without damage to the underlying tissue. Above four I would recommend an orthopedic specialist, especially if said Dr is qualified in Sports Medicine. If a single shot does not do it all a person can benefit from a steroid shot under anesthesia with manipulation to free up the frozen shoulder. I have had numerous injections for temporary relief until I had four weight bearing joints replaced. I also injected many joints, capsules, tendons and trigger points in my 43 years of medical practice

I have advanced osteoarthritis in both wrists. The shots were a bit painful and I have a pretty good tolerance for pain. But I agree with everyone who gave you an answer. I got a good six months of being pain free and i know a woman who had one in her shoulder and two years later was still pain free. So to me, it was worth the initial pain to have relief for so long. Good luck.

My grandmother had the same issue with her shoulder.  She did go ahead and received the injection and is back 100%.  Though different people react differently to medications...i think it is a good thing to do some research and to get many opinions hence i am offering mine.  Give snugglebum a kiss for me and good luck with the shoulder.

ONE THING I FORGOT TO MENTION: I BELIEVE A PATIENT CAN ONLY RECEIVE ONE INJECTION OF THIS SORT EACH YEAR SO BE SURE TO ASK YOUR DOCTOR.
