Can Anyone Recommend An Affordable Good College With An Excellent Art Program On The East Coast?

The top art schools are so expensive. Can you get just as good training some state schools?

On the East Coast, the "only" place to study art is in New York City. As for the "top art schools" there, because New York is the art center, you have more choices beyond these merely for the fact that art is so prevalent there. Any art program in any of the city's colleges could do well towards art training. The reason is because there is a sort of a proximate spillover of ideas between the prestigious and the not-so. You've got the galleries, the museums, each offering their own ancillary programs, and you have the pick of some really great schools. Columbia University, New York University, and even Hunter College. But if nothing else there is also a resource of the City Universities....for that, I would tend to pick Brooklyn College. In any field it offers as a study course, it has a tendency to excel and rival private schools of any class. It's in Brooklyn, but it has a really comfortable quadrangle campus and is as close as a city college can get to being ivy league.
