What Is The Workshop On Working With Extremophiles About?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The topic for the third and final segment of the Society of Industrial Microbiology's workshop, to be held in the city of Denver on the twenty-ninth day of the month of July in the year 2007, is working with extremophiles.

An extremophile is usually a superior species of biocatalysts than any of the traditional species of biocatalysts. Extremophiles provide proteins which contain unique properties. Many varieties of extremophiles show signs of being active even a temperature which is as high as about 120 degrees Centigrade.

There are certain species of extremophiles that are active even when the value of the pH is between zero and three and between nine and eleven and in the presence of solvents that are organic. The micro-organisms that live in extreme habitats help in the process of degradation of polymers.
