My Husband And I Are Trying To Learn As Much About Chinese Culture As We Can Before We Go To China This Fall. Do You Know Any Good Books That Would Help?
We want to be courteous and know what the culture is like before we get there. Wouldn't want to say or do the wrong thing.

I would suggest that you find a "China town" and talk to the people besides reading books.They will give more insight first hand then the books.Still read the books for reference.

Welcome to China, i suggest you read some books about daily talk, Chinese people are friendly people, please don't worry too much about the culture, just try to study as many words used frequetely in daily talk as you can, generally, it will be enough.
An intersting hint:
Chinese people would like to ask each other " have you had your meal? ( ni chi fan le ma?" when they meet, and it always happens.

Hi, first I wish you have a good time in China. Although you may see or hear a lot about China, you still will be shocked about many things when you are in China. But its all fun.
Chinese speak very loudly, but it does not mean they are arguing or getting angry with you, so dont feel being offended when you are talked loudly.
Also, like junta said, couple of simple chinese words can always help, like: Ni hao (hello), Xiexie (thanks), Zaijian (byebye)
And, practice chopsticks before you go! Lots small restaurants do not have folk and knife ;)
