What Is The NTFS De-fragmentation?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Let's return to one attractive sufficient and significant moment - NTFS fragmentation and de-fragmentation. The state of affairs with these two concepts at the instant can not be called acceptable in any way. At the very start it was said that NTFS is not topic to file fragmentation. It is not precisely so and the declaration was changed - NTFS saves fragmentation. It is not accurately so either. That is it surely prevents but... It is previously clear that NTFS is an organization which is inclined to fragmentation in spite of administrator statements.

But it doesn't undergo from it. All interior structures are made in such way that fragmentation does not hold back to find data fragments rapid. But it doesn't put aside from the bodily effect of fragmentation - squander disk heads motions.

NTFS disk is separated into two areas. In start of the disk there is MFT region - the region where MFT grows (Master File bench). The region occupies minimum 12% of the disk, and the information record in this area is not possible. The other disk packed more than on 88% is almost not possible to be defragmenter - even de-fragmentation API cannot transport the information in MFT region.
