Who Is Michael Gunn?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Michael Gunn was a student at the University of Kent at Canterbury who attempted to sue the university for not pointing out to him that he had been copying the substance for his essays directly from the Internet.  His lawyers suggest that by only telling him this at his finals, he has been given the opportunity to rack up huge debts, without the opportunity to learn that he had been cheating.

Mr Gunn openly admits to plagiarism but claims that he 'never dreamt it was a problem'. He is suggesting that his ignorance is the fault of the University of Kent, which is plainly nonsense.  The defence of ignorance has never been allowed in court before.  Almost certainly the University of Kent has issued guidelines on plagiarism, and all departments at universities would have a handbook that mentions plagiarism in detail.

However, the University may have responded poorly in not picking up on Gunn's cheating before this time.
