It gives a much better view of where things really are on Earth, than looking at maps. It also demonstrates why aircraft flying shortest routes seem to be going a very strange way on a map.

Globes have many useful functions.  Besides being a snow globe, the regular globe can give you information such as places and coordinated axis on the actual globe.  These are just a few of the ways that a globe is useful to people.
