How Do You Negotiate Demands For A Hostage Situation In Jail?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

One of the persons who play a key role in the process of negotiating the demands for a hostage situation in jail is the first responder. The role of the first responder in a hostage crisis in prison is crucial and it is on his negotiation skills that the ultimate resolution of the hostage crisis depends.

The responding patrol officer must be able to understand clearly the dynamics of the hostage crisis. Only when the responding patrol officer has full knowledge about the dynamics of the incident, he will be able to reduce the high levels of stress and emotional upheavals that both parties, namely the hostage taker and the hostages, go through. He will be able to communicate better with the hostage taker if he is fully knowledgeable about the dynamics of the incident. It is, however, unfortunate that most patrol officers are not properly trained to act in the capacity of the first responder in a hostage crisis.
