When Was The First Game Of Football?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The first-ever instance of a soccer match between two clubs was the opening first-round match of the Football Association Challenge Cup (held in England), popularly known as the FA Cup, which was held in the year 1871-72. This match was between the Barnes Football Club (Barnes F.C.) and the Civil Services Football Club (Civil Services F.C.).

Barnes beat the Civil Services 2-0. It was the first-ever club soccer tournament, and now with more teams joining the competition every year, the Football Association of England has changed the format of the FA Cup from a knockout tournament to a league tournament and has a packed calendar of events throughout the year.

The first-international soccer match was played on November 30, 1872 between a team of English players and their Scottish counterparts. The game ended in a scoreless draw, but that was the humble beginning of what is known today as the 'beautiful game'. Soccer, or association football, is the most popular spectator sport in the world.
