    Newton-le-Willows is a town in England. It is located in the Metropolitan Borough of St. Helens. The Borough of St. Helens is located in the metropolitan county of Merseyside, which is the historic county of Lancashire. The county of Lancashire is located in the North West region of England. The nearest towns to Newton-le-Willows are St. Helens to the west and Warrington to the south. It was a parliamentary borough between the 16th century and the year 1832.

    In 1894, the developing industrial town of Newton-le-Willows became an Urban District. It was then known as Newton in Makerfield. The U.D.C. was renamed again in the year 1939. It became a part of the Borough of St. Helens in the year 1974. The soul and pop musician Rick Astley, the playwright and writer Colin Welland and the biochemist and Nobel Prizewinner (for Medicine or Physiology in 1972) Rodney Robert Porter were all born in Newton-le-Willows and are well-known residents of the town.
