They are excellent for companionship especially for old people. There is a lot of old people alone in the world and a dog always give unconditional love. They are the eyes for lots of people which means independency. In the country I live in a dog will protect you with his live.

They are so loving and trusting and loyal.. And warm and soft and they cuddle you when you are down.. And they play with you whenever you want them to.. And they entertain you with their silly antics and make you laugh when no one else can and they give you kisses even if you don't want them. And no one under the age of 5 is ever so excited to see you when youve been gone 10 minutes.. LOL

They are good best friends when your people friends don't care. They are good at keeping secrets, they won't give you away. They are trusting and look up to you. They don't judge you. They are always happy to see you. They would do anything to keep you safe. They are Man's Best Friend.

Canon is always happy to see me when I get home from classes. When I have a long hard day he's always there to cuddle with me and make me feel better. He makes me smile just to see him play with his brother Buster. Buster is awesome too, but Canon is my baby. Both my "boys" do some funny things that makes me smile even when I feel like crying. When I let Canon out of his cage in the morning, If I don't let Buster out of my son's room fast enough he will go in there and open the door for him....lol... So funny! Oh... And he's also good for catching the cat... When Lucky escapes out the door, Canon will run after him and catch him.. He lays with his paws on him until I can get there...lol... He doesn't want his "little brother" to get hit by a car.

When I lived with my parents I got really sick for two weeks and was stuck in bed. Neither of the dogs left my side and they were very comforting... Plus they kept me warm :) They are good for so many things, helping the blind to see, protection, a great friend, drug sniffers... Etc the list goes on.

THERE ARE ALSO THERAPY DOGS USED TO HELP SOME {LIKE ME} RE-LEARN TO WALK AND TO MOVE THEIR ARMS {LIKE ME} WHILE HOSPITALIZED. ♥NASSY

All of the above answers are excellent. They are also useful, depending upon the breeds, as working dogs. I used to have a Blue-heeler, and you never seen an animal that was better for working cattle. They have an instinct for it. We currently own 2 teacup chihuahuas. Took my wife 20 years to talk me into allowing her to have them, since I generally detest ankle-biters, but these two are not yappy like most seem to be, I dunno why. But they ARE great watchdogs. I assure you, nobody is coming into this house without me having good warning.
